The village is located on the southern slopes of Bjelasnica at 1495 meters altitude, which makes it the most populated place of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the only over 1300 meters. Based on Medieval Tombstone Graveyards located in the village and dating from the 14th and 15th centuries, it is believed that the village was inhabited and hundreds of years ago. The Last three winter Lukomir villagers leave their homes because life under the snow became dangerous. Villagers started the winter migration because of fear for their own lives and the life of their children. The road to the village will not be cleaned when the snow falls, the responsible authorities do not care about the people in the village. Because of that villagers are forced to leave the village with farm animals and go to the lower areas before winter.
